Screening new techniques

Updated: Feb 23

My first painting on screen.

I have always wanted to create a mood or mystery in my work. The idea of the illusive or mysterious is interesting to me. I have loved working in charcoal in the past and enjoy shadows or cast of lights. Black and white photos are delightful to the eye and insights to a past that we can only imagine. So, I have been thinking about playing with light, old photos, charcoal and shadow.

I love to search Marketplace for items that may interest me and I came across large used silk screens from a local flag printing company who were moving from silk screen to digital printing. They were selling large screens for very cheap. So I went to get a few!

I started working on a screen with half of the screen with image, and the other half clear to play and see what I could do. I began to paint with fluid acrylics to test transparency. I also primed the emulsified side

with gesso to see if the paint would adhere. I decided to paint something I knew, so I did a landscape. Here is what resulted. I will keep you informed on what I do next!
